学术报告:Mechanisms of light therapy approaching against Alzheimer’s disease

摘要

Alzheimer's disease progresses in the aging population. Current treatment options are limited to a narrow time frame at the mild to moderate stage of dementia. Most investigational drugs fail to prove their efficacy in clinical trials, and there are but a few preventative measures that one can take. A novel treatment approach, using photobiomodulation to prevent neuronal apoptosis, has shown promising results in in vitro and in vivo experiments. A comprehensive summary on the available research on photobiomodulation against Alzheimer's disease shows that the mechanistic action has been largely understood on a cellular level, safe and effective doses have been found in animal models, and first human case studies provide reason to enter large scale clinical trials.

个人简介

Dr. Yurii V. Stepanov graduated from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Department of Biochemistry in biochemistry specialization. Hi is now a postdoctoral fellow in the R.E. Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Dr. Yurii V. Stepanov is interested in the area of photobiomodulation, in particular investigation of the new mechanisms of light therapy approaching against Alzheimer’s disease. At the same time, he is interested in the area of oncology, in particular the metabolism of cancer cells during metastasis. He has published many papers in high ranking journals and attended many conferences.
